Hi Everyone:
Well I finally started to unpack some after my move six months ago and found my copy of Night Porter. I will bring it with me in Sept for our movie night. I am sure the men will love that.
I also read that it is based on a true story that happened in Wien in the 1950's.
Very ery to watch it since so many of the places in the Film are still the same?
For example, the Otto Wagner houses on the Link Wienzell, the Karl Marz Hof, the statue of Maria Theresa on the Ring, the K. Holzer crematorium in the central freidhof and finally a quick scene in the Loos bar.
Anyone care to comment. Maybe our friend Duncan?
I will tell you that Dirk Bogard never looked better!
All for now

Hi Susan,
I'm glad you finally found some time to unpack. I just looked up the movie that you've suggested (Night Porter), and I don't think I want to watch it. On the other hand, I'd be glad to watch a movie like third man... Since we don't get to see each other a lot, I'd suggest we pick a movie that we all like, preferably not a sad or violent one, so that we all get to have a good time and enjoy the evening. What do you think?
All my best,
Barbara.
Being a fan of the late, great Dirk Bogarde I am keen to see "The Night Porter", but agree that it is one only for those interested. A "group evening" is probably best conducted without a film at all!
Duncan
Hello Barbara and Duncan,
Thanks for your replies. I agree with you about the theme of Night Porter, but supposidly it was based on a true storey in Vienna in the 1950's. Dirk Borgard really made the movie, wonderful acting. It was filed by a lady Italian Director in the '70's and captures a different Vienna than now. You wouldnt recognize the scenes of the Link Wienzelle O. Wagner houses, nor the Naschmarkt nor the Loos Bar. Also, there is a scene filmed on top of St. Stephens. Dont know how they managed to do that. I will bring it for Duncan and Rosi to watch.
I think the idea of a movie for our movie night that we all like is great. I am open to suggestions. It must be a Vienna theme. If we can all agree, I will buy the dvd here and bring it with me.
Has anyone seen "Bride of the Wind" about Alma Mahler. Also great scenes of the Loos house and the Muskiverin and the Hohe Wart.
I do have the anniversay dvd of the Third Man, 3 separate dvd telling about the makign of the movie and can always bring that.
Let me know your thoughts. Will the Vienna dvd players play the US dvds?
Best to everyone.
Susan
