Hi Susan!
Great to hear from you! It seems we are all covered with work - at least I can say it for us and unfortunaetly this leaves me with almost no time for anything trivial like eating, sleeping,... and staying in touch - but who needs sleep and food anyway ;-). I'm just joking. Well, for the tickets I believe this is the literature festival - soudns great - but unfortunately I believe it is in German and I guess it won't be too enjoyable for my significant other.
Other than that not much is new - just work progressing slowly and our trip to the states that we are mentally getting ready for :-). I'm very much looking forward to see LA and SF (I've never been there) and of course seeing Cleveland again.
I also read quite a bit about taxes in Europe recently. It is just amazing how much taxes austrians pay compared to the EU average. Only swedish people pay more and I believe Austrian income taxes are still higher. Interestingly 80% of the literature on taxes and tax systems and fees has been written in German - tells you something doesn't it? :-)
Well my warmest greatings from the not so warm Vienna (it turned cold again after a delightful spring weather). And I hope to read you soon!
Barbara
Dear Susan
For my part, it is not so much pressure of work as a paucity of Vienna news to report. Yesterday I took a long walk down the Danube, peeking into the lounges and dining rooms of the luxury river boats moored at Mexikoplatz. I often wonder what people think when their ship docks there because it is hardly the Vienna they would be expecting, which lies several kilometres to the west. Still, no doubt they are quickly whisked off by bus to Schönbrunn or the Hofburg for the real thing!
Any further thoughts about your upcoming Vienna event? As I mentioned, I am available much of the time you are here. Keep us posted.
One other thing: I noticed some "Graffiti" from 1660 (!) on the Schweitzer Tor (Swiss Gate) in the Hofburg recently: "Forgive those who have sinned against us". I wonder who scratched those words on the wall all those years ago?
Wishing you a good week ahead - Duncan
Hello Everyone:
Good to hear from Barbara and Duncan. I have spent the entire day today tyring to find a hotel room in the lst District for my trip. It looks like I will be in Wien from May 2 - May 10th. I am using my FF Miles since I have so many, but I cant believe that all the usual hotels I stay in are booked! Is there some special event or Congress happening during that period that anyone knows of?
Also, Duncan you go to the most interesting places in Wien, no wonder you wrote your great book on Wien. Have you ever been to the cemetary of the Nameless? That was in the silly Yuuppie movie, "Before Sunrise?". I always wanted to visit this cemetary but couldnt find out how to get there via public transportation.
Duncan, have you ever been to the Wortuba Kirche? Bernie and Elisabeth took me there once since he has a car, on a Sunday in the Spring and it was a most magnficant sight to behold!
More later.

Hell Everyone:
Just want to let you all know that our Vienna Movie marathan will be on Sunday, May 6th @ 1 pm. I will bring the Vienna Movies from here (all DVDs) and anyone else is welcome to bring your movies, but they have to have a Vienna theme. Also, that night I have been invited to attend the Sigmund Freud lecture (it is his birthday) on Freud's Dream Theory today. Fortunately, for me, it will be in English! Venue will be announced later.
On Monday, May 7th I am hoping to have my Networking Party. I am waiting to hear from our BlogMaster, since I want him to be able to attend.
So, everyone, please keep those dates open.
Also, I will bring great "junk food" nibbles from the US that you all will love! Dont turn me into the "food police"!!
