Hi Everyone:
Hope you are all ready for a wonderful December and Christmas in wonderful Wien! I think Vienna is the prettiest city in the entire world during Christmas. Much prettier than backwater DC! You have so many wonderful places to choose from to see the Holiday spirit.
Would love to know everyone's Christmas plans. I will be here in Backwater DC, not going to my place in Florida this year since I am working on a campaign for 2 months. But I plan to be in Wien from February 9 - 15 to attend the UN/Diplomats Ball at the Hofburg.
Hope you all have read your Only in Wien 'cause I intend to give eveyone a pop quiz when I come over.
Has anyone on our blog been to the Japaneses garden? I would love to go there.
Best to everyone

Do you mean the one in Schoenbrunn infront of the Zoo entry? This one is so small you can walk around in five minutes.
Or the one near Donauturm?
Guten Tage Fraulein VAN,
glad that someone is reading our blog!
Have you had a chance to look at Duncan's book? 'Cause he mentions the Japense garden in it. I dont have the book with me, but I think it must be the one out near the Donaturm? Also, is there one in the 18 or 19th (Dobling District)?Didnt know there were so many Japenses gargens in Wien.
Never saw the one in front of the Tiergartdn, but I havent been to the zoo for a while.
I barely make it up to the Gloriette for the view and then a cup of wonderful wienger melagne and then I barely have enough energy left over to roll back down the hill to the fountain below!

Believe me, I would never go up and down in Schoenbrunn - to lazy for that. I take the cute Schoenbrunn train to come along :-)
Hey Fraulein VAN,
great idea the train, we will have to ride it in February. I always feel that I should get some exercise, so I walk up to the Gloriette. The paths cross-crosses, so it isnt so bad. I read someplace that your Empress Maria Theresa used to walk up the path. What a great lady!
I think from the front of the Gloriette is the most beautiful view of Wien any place, including the one from the Belvedere.
What does everyone else thing?

Hello Ladies!
Yes, there are several Japanese gardens in Vienna. My favourite is the Setagaya Park in Döbling (Setagaya is a suburb of Tokyo, which is twinned with Döbling). I recently found a tiny Japanese garden in one of the courtyards of the Old AKH on Alser Strasse: it is about the size of a large dining table, and is made up of different stines brought all the way from Japan. Only in Vienna!
Best wishes - Duncan
I saw the one in the courtyard of AKH with my daughter in summer. She thought it would be the right size for our garden :-)
I think I have made a photo - I will put it in my webalbum to share.

Hello Van and Duncan,
Wow, I will have to see this garden at the AKH in person also the one in Dobling in May. Never really saw a Japenese garden before, how are the different from say an English garden?
Does the Japenese garden have Panasonic TV sets embedded in it?
LOL

Hey VAN,
loed the photo of thie Japensee garden, you must tell Herr Okura about it. If there is no Panasonic/Sony tv embedded there, maybe there should be a "small" Toyota car there,
what do you think?
LOL
