Austrian Prme Minister in a Track Suit

Gross Gott Everyone:

I read in a US political journal that your new Prime Minister upon his election on October 1, 2006, was photographed in a Boston Red Sox (US Baseball Team) Track Suit while sitting down at a cafe enjoying a Viennese coffee. The location was not even on the Graben, somplace in the 8th District, where he lives.

Can anyone on our blog or in Vienna verify this? I am just amazed that he would be wearing a Boston Red Sox Track Suit, Wow! Even Bush with his Texas cowboy hat hasnt done this, yet, tha is!

Hope everyone is doing well and that you all are finally having some nice Spring weather.

All the best

Dear Susan
I don't know about Herr Fischer's current dress code, however I recently read a newspaper piece about the 8th District (where he lives) and all the famous people to have resided there: actors Curd Jürgens and Oskar Werner, writers Heimito von Doderer and Ödön von Horvath, Klimt (he had a studio here), film directors Fritz Lang and Billy Wilder, and composers Johann Strauus (the father) and Josef Lanner.
I am now away in berlin for 2 weeks and will be back in touch after that. Best wishes - Duncan

Hey Duncan,
Dont make me get on an Austrian Airlines plane and ocme over there and educate you about Austrian politics. Herr Fisher indeed lives in the 8th District (in the same location as the Klimt studio in the Josephstrasse); however, Herr Fisher is the President (took over from Herr Klestil) and not the Prme Minister, ie, Bundekancellor (sp?) that would be Herr. Gruseberger (sp?) who took over after the elections on October 1 from the former PM Wolfgang Schlussel, who by the way, lives in Hietzing close to our Klimt villa. Everyone in Wien seems to be connected, ie, Six Degrees of Separation/ In any case, what was the PM of Austria doing wear a Track Suit with the logo of a US baseball team. I mean the only place in Wien where baseball is played is at the UN! It boggles the mind!
As Helen Mirren said in the "Queen" oh, buggers.
Hope you are having a great time in Berlin, the home of my Kloos ancestors, all came from around where Checkpoint Charlie used to be. Very good Prussian stock, and I am so proud to be German American.
All the best, dear Duncan.
